Fighting Stigma, Building Hope: Pride Month Initiatives from Chicago’s LGBTQ+ Clinic

Pride Month is a celebration. For many gay men, it is a time to not only accept but also to embrace and honor their identity. And for many of these men, the not-so-distant memory of being closeted, to the anxiety and possible backlash of coming out, to the awkwardness and sometimes shaming that accompanies being openly gay, the journey of self-acceptance doesn’t happen overnight, and it often carries many emotional scars with it.

Summit Psychotherapy, Chicago’s premier LGBTQ+ mental health clinic, helps gay men work through issues like anxiety, trauma, PTSD, codependency, depression, and much more. They provide affirming therapy that helps young men and older men find their way to connection and empowerment – and not only during Pride Month, but all year long. These services are offered in person and via telehealth statewide. Ensuring every client in Illinois can access the fully supportive mental health services they deserve.

Centering Mental Health During Pride

Even though parades and festivities express the exuberance of Pride, many LGBTQ+ individuals contend with mental health struggles that are hidden from view. What should be a season of simple, unfettered pride can, for some, be an exacerbation of mental health issues tied to longstanding feelings of shame or low self-esteem.

That’s why Summit Psychotherapy is being used this month to raise the visibility (and hopefully the comfort level in just talking about it): that mental health matters, and they are here to help with it. Therapists are specially trained to handle and support very complex cases, like sexual abuse and infidelity. They also help with less dramatic but still important family and relationship conflicts.

Building Safe Spaces for Healing

Central to Chicago’s premier LGBTQ+ mental health clinic Pride efforts is a commitment to safety; rendering therapeutic spaces where clients feel seen, heard, and supported with no fear of judgment. Whether someone is dealing with past trauma, steering through a life transition, or reconstructing an identity following any kind of painful experience, Summit offers the kind of care that’s as authentic as it is clinically sound. Summit goes beyond helping people manage symptoms

It offers life coaching and support for spiritual growth, guiding clients toward deeper self-awareness and a sense of purpose. The team here recognizes that healing is never one-size-fits-all; especially in the LGBTQ+ community – and works to meet each client where they are.

Expanding Access with Telehealth

Understanding that not everyone can attain direct service, Summit supplies telehealth therapy that’s as secure as its in-person offers for mental health in Illinois. This month, that’s more crucial.

For many of LGBTQ+ community members here in non-Chicago-adjacent spaces, they are one of the few (if not only) options for local, affirming care. Summit is using the tools of telehealth to bring much-needed mental health services to those who would otherwise be without it in Illinois.

Chicago’s Premier LGBTQ+ Mental Health Clinic Invokes Pride as a Path to Healing

Pride isn’t just a season – it’s a daily attitude and practice. It’s interwoven into every session, every story, and every step taken toward healing. By providing specialized support for gay men throughout Chicago and Illinois, Summit continues to combat stigma, instill hope, and enable clients to live even more profound, omnipresent, and intimate lives.

If you’re ready to begin your journey, the Summit is here – with you and for you, during Pride and every day that follows.
